“Free recipe app” can mean free to download, free to cook, or free until you import the sixth recipe. This page is published by Souschef. It explains those differences with public documentation checked on 17 September 2026.
Quick answer: Ask what happens after you save a recipe. On Souschef, cooking, shopping, and organization stay available on the free plan; you get five saved imports per rolling 7 days. ReciMe also documents five free imports per week, with cooking mode and several other tools listed as Plus.
Define free before you compare logos
Useful checks:
- Does previewing an import cost a slot?
- Do saved recipes expire?
- Are cooking mode, lists, and conversion free or paid?
- Is there a trial that converts to a subscription?
- Is there a desktop app, or only a mobile app plus a viewer?
Branded Souschef pricing lives on Is Souschef free?. This article is for the generic “best free recipe app” question.
Souschef’s free plan
Souschef is free to download. Every feature is available on the free plan, including Cooking Mode, shopping lists, Meal Plan, translation, and nutrition. Nutrition estimates are guidance, not medical advice. Pantry is experimental.
The quota is five saved imports per rolling 7 days. Failed imports and previews do not count. Recipes you already saved stay yours. Souschef Plus is unlimited imports for $2.99 USD/month or $24.99 USD/year as of 17 September 2026. There is no Plus trial and no family plan.
ReciMe’s free plan, from ReciMe’s help
ReciMe’s help center says the free plan includes up to 5 imports every 7 days, manual recipes, grocery lists, meal plans, and cookbooks. The same help center lists unlimited imports, nutrition, measurement conversion, export/print, and step-by-step guided cooking as Plus. ReciMe describes a 7-day Plus trial, with notes that monthly plans and repeat trials may not include it.
That is a different shape of “free” than Souschef, even when both mention five imports.
Paprika is usually not a free app
Paprika is sold as a paid app per platform. It can still be the right purchase if you want a one-time recipe manager. See Paprika alternative.
Start free without fear language
If five carefully chosen imports a week would cover how you actually cook, a quota is not a trick. If you import constantly from social apps, you will hit a limit on either Souschef free or ReciMe free; the question is which other tools remain available when you do.
